DESCRIPTION:In this talk I want to show that a standard assumption about
markedness can't be applied to German as easy as it might seem: masculin
e gender is unmarked in most languages that distinguish a masculine and
a feminine gender. \nSome data from different domains of German nouns ar
e going to be presented to show that the picture is a lot more complicat
ed than it might seem at first glance but maybe can be explained under t
he assumption that there are interpretable and uninterpretable gender fe
atures located at a little n head.
