Sprecher: Matthew Sung
I am a 2nd year PhD student at Leiden University. My research interests are general dialectology, phonological history, and sound change. My current project focuses on the classification of Yue and Pinghua dialects spoken in Southern China.
Previosuly, I explored the relationship between San Diu, a language spoken in Northern Vietnam, and a number of Southern Sinitic languages in my undergraduate dissertation. For my Master's thesis, I studied the geographical variation of a feature in Yue dialects and reconstructed an older dialect landscape of Guangdong.
If you are specialised in dialectology and/or other related areas too, do come and say hi! I would be thrilled to meet someone who works in the same field as me :)
