DESCRIPTION:A special taste of bilingualism: Mizrahi pop music of Arabic
Jews \n\nMizrahi pop Music shows fascinating bilingual skills of Arab Je
ws originating from the Middle East\, Arabic and Hebew being closely rel
ated languages\, nowadays interconnected in so-called world music. To ge
t an idea\, we will listen to sound samples. \nThe contact language feat
ure phono semantic equation (PSE)\, which can be detected here\, will be
demonstrated with linguistic comment. \nThis talk draws a sound picture
of these skills and the historical roots.

DESCRIPTION:Adversarial examples have been making headlines in the comput
er vision community for a few years now\, but did not seem to have a hug
e impact in natural language processing until very recently. Small chang
es to an image\, mostly invisible to the human eye\, can fool a neural n
etwork into classifying a turtle as a gun\, or a stop sign as a green li
ght. Of course\, a single sentence has significantly fewer features to p
erturb than a 512x512 colour image\, still machines can be fooled by sli
ght rephrasing and exploiting real world biases that have crept into the
system.\nThis talk gives a brief introduction into the technology and d
angers of adversarial attacks and delves into the possible implications
for testing and employing natural language processing systems.

DESCRIPTION:In order to use text data for digital systems like search mac
hines\, the computer needs to understand the semantics of the text. An i
mportant task in Computational Linguistics is therefore the automatic de
tection of semantic relations. A rather challenging kind of relation is
the one of causality\, since it is usually highly dependent on the conte
xt and rarely true in general. Thus\, even humans struggle with the anno
tation of causal relations. However\, state-of-the-art systems often use
machine learning techniques for this task which requires a huge amount
of annotated data.\nBecause of this problem\, I built a system in the co
urse of my Bachelor thesis which automatically detects and extracts caus
al entities in unannotated German corpora. I focus on specific causal st
ructures having nominal triggers (e.g. The defect toaster was the CAUSE
for the fire). The system is provided with few manually selected example
s and uses a bootstrapping algorithm to find new examples\, triggers and
causal patterns. To avoid semantic drift\, several filtering methods ba
sed on word embeddings and the resource GermaNet are tested and evaluate
 d. In my talk\, I am going to present this system and its results.

DESCRIPTION:Aymara is an isolate suffix-only SOV language spoken in parts
of Peru\, Bolivia\, Chile and Argentinia. Its person/tense agreement pa
radigm comprises four person categories (1st\, 2nd\, 3rd\, 1st inclusive
) and four tenses (future\, simple\, recent past\, remote past). Althoug
h Coler (2015) claims the portmanteau morphemes encoding these categorie
s cannot be systematically separated into tense and person markers\, the
patterns one can see in the paradigm suggest there is a way of breaking
them down into tense\, subject and\, in some cases\, object markers. Ho
wever\, this raises a couple of issues for theoretical morphology: \n1)
The linearisation of tense and person markers depends on the subject>obj
 ect constellation: In the 3>3\, 1incl>3\, 2>1\, 3>1 and 3>1incl forms\,
person precedes tense while in all other contexts\, tense precedes perso
 n. In Distributed Morphology\, according to the Mirror Principle (Baker
1985)\, this differential linearisation must already be there in the syn
tactic derivation\, i.e. in the adjunction of v to T. For predefined tem
plates in Paradigm Function Morphology\, this is a serious challenge. \n
 2) In the 2>1 future as well as in the 2>1\, 3>1 and 3>1incl remote past
forms tense is not expressed by a CV suffix but by partial reduplicatio
 n. Assuming Marantz' (1982) theory of reduplication\, this can be seen a
s suffixation of melody carrying CV skeletons and copying melodic elemen
ts of the preceding subject agreement suffix. \nIn the same way\, the pr
operty of some suffixes of deleting the preceding vowel can be analysed
as a melody carrying C skeleton at the left edge of the suffix and a hig
h ranked DEP constraint in phonology. \n3) Some of the markers appear in
contexts that do not form any natural classes. This can be easily handl
ed in Paradigm Function Morphology by postulating arbitrary rules of ref
erral. In Distributed Morphology\, as it seems\, we have a choice betwee
n expanding the feature decomposition by adding features\, postulating i
mpoverishment rules and assuming arbitrary homonymy.

DESCRIPTION:The participle-adjective impressed can be followed by <i>with
</i> and <i>by</i> with no apparent semantic or pragmatic difference. Th
is\, however\, would violate the principle of no synonymy (Goldberg 1995
)\, meaning that a difference in use should exist.\nTwo possible causes
were investigated: 1) The variation may be due to the choice of compleme
nt or 2) The variation is due to the adjective-participle gradient. Thes
e hypotheses were tested by doing a corpus analysis using the <i>Corpus
of Contemporary American English</i> (COCA). To test Hypothesis 1\, 200
 occurrences each of <i>impressed with</i> and <i>impressed by</i> were a
nalyzed by hand\, according to the criteria weight (including length and
complexity)\, animacy\, negation and agentivity. Hypothesis 2 was teste
d by exploring all occurrences in COCA regarding occurrence in comparati
ve structures\, use of different copula verbs\, and co-occurrence with a
dverbs (all of which are previously established criteria for central adj
ectives).\nThe results show that <i>impressed by</i> occurs more often i
n complex structures than <i>impressed with</i> (scoring higher regardin
 g complexity\, length\, and negation)\, whereas <i>impressed with</i> oc
curs more frequently in adjective-like structures. This suggests that <i
 >impressed by</i> is used more frequently in passive structures\, while
<i>impressed with</i> is used as a predicative adjective more often.

eine Argumenthierarchie Kindern Probleme zu bereiten.\nUm diese Annahme
n zu testen\, wurde eine Analyse elizitierter Produktionsdaten (n=20\; 2

in signifikanter Zusammenhang nachgewiesen werden kann\, muss anhand ein

DESCRIPTION:Ziel des Vortrags ist es zu zeigen\, dass sich die Funktion d

DESCRIPTION:There are different linguistic strategies to respond affirmat
ively or negatively to previous\nutterances and yes/no-questions. Most p
rominent are three strategies: a) the use of echo-\nresponsives that usu
ally involve the elliptically reduced repetition of the preceding questi
on in\nthe affirmative or negative\, e.g.\, Question: Do you swear to te
ll the truth\, the whole truth and\nnothing but the whole truth? Answer:
I do\, or b) the use of responsive particles like English\nYes! or No!\
, or c) the mixed strategy of responsive particle plus echo-responsive a
 s in English\nYou didn’t sell your house\, did you? No\, I didn’t. All o
f these strategies have been dealt with\nin the secondary literature mos
tly from a synchronic perspective. In my contribution I intend\nto add t
he diachronic perspective. It is possible to reconstruct the echo-answer
system of type\na) for Proto-Indo-European\, and to document that respo
nsive particles of type b) often\nevolved from the chunking and sediment
ation of echo-responsive sentence fragments. Under\n\nthis approach it i
s possible to make headway inter alia regarding the diachronic and\netym
ological explanation of negative responsives in some Indo-European langu
 ages.

DESCRIPTION:Traditionally\, word sense annotation in lexical semantics re
lied on a fixed inventory of senses assigning a single best sense for a
given use. Nowadays\, studies often take a graded view on word meaning w
here a use may be assigned to multiple senses on a graded scale or use p
airs may be annotated for their semantic proximity and then clustered. W
hile the latter approach avoids the definition of a word sense inventory
\, and thus by itself gives no information on the quality of a sense clu
ster (what sense a cluster represents)\, the approach allows to measure
important lexical properties such as polysemy or vagueness.\nUse pair an
notation is attractive\, because it requires no manual preparation excep
t for the sampling of uses from a corpus\, while yielding high inter-ann
otator agreement. We extend this approach to annotate use pairs sampled
from different corpora allowing us to measure differences in a word’s co
rpus-specific sense distributions. Measuring such differences is e.g. im
portant for identification of words undergoing lexical semantic change o
r word sense differences between language varieties.\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Wie verändert sich unsere Sprache im Laufe unseres Lebens? Di

orie der „age-graded variation“ geht davon aus\, dass die individuelle (

DESCRIPTION:The phenomenon of code switching has been researched for abou

linguistic discipline.\nNowadays this phenomenon is in the focus\, becau

ses morphosyntaktische Muster in bisher bestehende Transitivitätsmodelle
  anzunehmen.

DESCRIPTION:This study examines whether sensitivity to allomorphy impacts
processing. English has two kinds of allomorphy: rule-based (cat/s/~dog
/z/~hors/əz/) and suppletive (good~better~best). We investigated allomor
phy as a novel predictor based on this distinction: first paradigm-by-pa
radigm (Experiment 1) and then across paradigms\, stem-by-stem and form-
by-form (Experiment 2). Mixed-effects regression models were fit to the
BLP dataset (Keuleers et al. 2012) with standard predictors and RTs and
accuracy as targets. Paradigms and stems both yielded the pattern (lowe
st to highest) none>rule>suppl for RTs\, while inflected forms exhibited
rule>none>suppl. Frequency interactions reversed the patterns\, yieldi
ng suppl>rule>none for paradigms and stems and suppl>none>rule for infle
cted forms (all p<0.001). While accuracy patterned the same\, the models
failed to converge in both experiments. The findings show that sensitiv
ity to allomorphy has to be addressed in processing models. However\, fu
rther investigation of allomorphic variables is needed.

on a self-paced reading experiment conducted to answer the question whet

DESCRIPTION:Black English (BE) or African American Vernacular English (AA
VE) has attracted much attention in contemporary sociolinguistics\, espe
cially since the movement against racial discrimination of the 1960s in
the United States. Linguists have since been collecting data to substant
iate their theories concerning the origin/development of BE. The majorit
y of linguists have come to a degree of consensus that some features of
BE can be systematically distinguished from American English and that BE
is not a ‘bad’ or inferior English variety. Many of them have remarked
that BE is more regional than racial and that most of its grammatical fe
atures can also be found in other English dialects. However\, a problem
lies in the label ‘Black English’ While AAVE is a product of Black cultu
re\, speaking AAVE is not what makes you black and being black does not
make you a speaker of black English. If there is Black English\, it then
connotes the existence of White English. But it is difficult to point t
o a study with a major focus on ‘White English’. It is then important to
examine the perception of Americans of AAVE.\nThis study investigates t
he attitudes of black and white Americans towards Black English. An inte
rview-questionnaire approach is used to elicit the perception of the inf
 ormants\, exploring their experiential\, attitudinal\, and descriptive r
esponses to AAVE. A few trends were found among the American respondents
along two major concerns: problems with the label and social constructi

DESCRIPTION:This paper starts from the different notions of contact-induc
ed language change\, individual language attrition and societal language
loss. It will discuss the different processes involved (transfer\, rest
ructuring and simplification strategies)\, both from a cognitive and lin
guistic perspective. The particular processes will be illustrated by exa
mples from language contact situations worldwide. While the focus will b
e on first and second generation speakers of German as a heritage langua

e contact settings in German-speaking enclaves in Eastern Europe\, Austr
 alia and Latin America.

DESCRIPTION:Languages are complex-adaptive systems par excellence. Like a
nimal flocks\, economic\nmarkets or ecosystems\, languages are ultimatel
y driven and shaped by the intentional actions\nof speakers. Linguistic
conventions such as words\, constructions or rules and the linguistic\ns
ystem at large emerge from this interaction and feed back into it. What
we tend to objectify\nas linguistic structure or the linguistic system e
merges from the interaction among speakers\nand constantly feeds back in
to it by means of self-reinforcing feedback loops. This explains\nwhy la
nguages are subject to situational\, social (incl. regional) and individ
ual variation and\non-going historical change.\nIt is one thing to claim
that languages are complex-adaptive systems\, but it is quite\nanother
to actually model such a system\, especially if the full range of struct
ural\, use-related\,\nsocial and cognitive aspects of language are to be
taken into consideration. To the best of my\nknowledge\, a unified comp
lex-adaptive model of language integrating all these aspects has\nnot be
en proposed so far.\nIn my talk I will present such a model. Over the pa
st ten years\, I have developed what\nI refer to as the Entrenchment-and
 -Conventionalization Model (cf.\, Schmid 2014\, 2015\, 2016\,\n2018\, an
d Schmid and Mantlik 2015). In its latest version (cf. Schmid in print)\
, this model\naims at detailing how the interaction between usage activi
ties\, cognitive entrenchment\nprocesses\, social conventionalization pr
ocesses and a range of forces bring about\, sustain and\nadapt what we c
all the linguistic system and in which ways this interaction contributes
to the\npersistence\, variation and change of linguistic structure.\nTh
e talk will focus on the main components of the model and provide some c
 ase\nstudies exemplifying how it works.

DESCRIPTION:An ongoing debate has long opposed a syntagmatic view of morp
hological units\, whereby words are seen as linear combinations of morph
emes coerced by derivational rules mapping underlying forms onto surface
constructs (ITEM & ARRANGEMENTS)\, to a paradigmatic view whereby whole
words are not only made up of identifiable parts\, but are themselves e
lements of a network of related forms (WORD & PARADIGM). This perspectiv
e dichotomy combines with another one regarding the way in which we asse
ss morphological complexity\, whether it is the mere number of forms (EN
UMERATIVE COMPLEXITY) or the systemic organization underlying the surfac
e patterns (INTEGRATIVE COMPLEXITY) that accounts for the learnability o
f a morphological system.\n\nFar from being out of touch with reality\,
these theoretical insights may serve a practical purpose in the didactic
s of morphologically complex languages\, such as Sanskrit\, whose reputa
tion of abstruseness and esotericism is essentially unfounded\, and aris
es (in part) from didactic materials sticking to traditional Indian gram
mar and seeking to give an daunting\, exhaustive account of surface acci
dence\, while failing to stress\, from the very beginning\, the intrinsi
c unity that underlies the apparent wealth of inflectional paradigms. Th
e definition of as many distinct noun or verb classes as there are simil
ar looking paradigms greatly overstates the overall complexity of the la
nguage and is pedagogically counterproductive. It is\, in fact\, possibl
e to derive the thirty-or-so nominal surface paradigms and the ten conju
gation classes from a much smaller number of meta-classes by way of phon
ological rules and a thorough understanding of how stem alternation patt
erns relate to one another.\n\nWith these principles in mind\, it is rea
sonable to state that\, against popular belief or first-sight impression
s\, Classical (i.e. Pāṇinian) Sanskrit is more regular than other heavil
y inflected languages such as Latin or Greek\, in spite of its greater w
ealth of morphosyntactic variables and its pervasive use of internal inf
 lection.

DESCRIPTION:Icelandic naming customs generally eschew proper surnames in
favour of patronymics or matronymics. An individual will carry their par
ent’s first name in combination with a suffix denoting gender – -son for
men\, -dóttir for women – instead of a family name. To this day this sy
stem has been kept in place in Iceland even as naming traditions in othe
r European countries moved on to patrilineally inherited family names. H
owever\, when Icelanders joined the European migration westward\, the di
ffering cultural and linguistic environment they found themselves in had
a significant impact on their names and naming practices. \nFrom an ono
mastic point of view\, the question whether the patronymic transition co
ntinued post-arrival in America or a continental European approach was a
dopted in the Icelandic emigrant communities merits further exploration.
To answer it\, I will investigate the presence of female patronymics in
particular\, using Canadian census data from the late 19th and early 2
0th century. The subsection of the census that forms the basis of my tal
k originates in Gimli\, an almost exclusively Icelandic settlement in th
e province of Manitoba. I will briefly comment on the usefulness of cens
us data for onomastic research before outlining the development of femal
e patronymics in Gimli. While there are very few examples of -dóttir-pat
ronymics in the 1881 and 1891 censuses\, the Gimli section of the 1901 c
ensus appears to contain a surprisingly high number of them\, painting a
rather complex picture of systemic change.

DESCRIPTION:To understand how speakers acquire a lexicon and expand their
vocabulary repertoire all throughout ages and development phases\, it i
s crucial to go to the nitty-gritty of experimentation. Exploring these
questions at the cognitive level calls for the use neuroimaging methods
developed in the field of neurolinguistics. As of today\, the neuronal m
echanisms for the encoding of linguistic expressions in long-term memory
are still ill-understood. One demographic group of interest for studyin
g this question is that of infants\, due to their higher levels of synap
tic plasticity. How is it that the brain deals with memorization of nati
ve and non-native expressions\, that is\, phonologically legal or illici
t forms? How do other cognitive mechanisms\, such as attention\, modulat
e this integration process? What are the effects of language-specific va
riables\, such as phonemic quality and frequency\, lexical exposure and
syllabic form\, on early learning of novel entries?\nIn this talk\, I wo
uld like to present our ongoing EEG project at the Integrative Neuroscie
nce and Cognition Center (Paris Descartes University) supervised by Pia
Rämä\, on early lexical acquisition in 24-month-olds. I’ll describe our
specific goals and methodology in this small project\, not only as a way
to get feedback for further improvement (given that the testing phase i
s still ongoing) but also as a way to open a broader discussion on how i
t is that linguists contribute to and integrate neuroscientific data for
their own theoretical formulation\, model-testing and the plausibility
of the postulated natural kinds of language.

DESCRIPTION:San Diu\, a language spoken in Northern Vietnam\, is understu
died. The genetic relationship between San Diu and other languages is st
ill not clear. There have been claims that San Diu is a form of Chinese
 language (Pham & Nguyen 2014: 89). Edmondson and Gregerson (2007: 744) s
tated that it is a form of archaic Cantonese\, possibly related to Pingh
ua which is spoken in modern day Guangxi\, China. In Ngyuen’s (2013) stu
dy\, she compared San Diu vocabularies with three Chinese dialects: Yue
(Guangzhou)\, Hakka (Meixian) and Southern Min (Teochew) and found that
around 2/3 of the San Diu vocabularies are similar to Hakka (lexically a
nd for some\, phonetically). \n\nTo explore the genetic classification o
f San Diu further\, I will be using shared innovations as a criterion fo
r the classification in this paper. This is another way to falsify previ
ous claims and the observation made by the surface synchronic comparison
between Chinese dialects and San Diu. Innovations that are prototypical
and unique to three Chinese dialect groups were chosen and compared wit
h San Diu. Over 400 syllables were analysed overall. The result shows th
at\, firstly\, a huge amount of words are not from a Sinitic origin. Sec
ondly\, San Diu shares innovations with Yue and Hakka. I argue that the
Sinitic words in San Diu largely came from Yue\, since more innovations
are shared with Yue than Hakka. This does not dispute the possibility th
at Hakka words did not make their way to San Diu\, however. Further stud
ies are needed for a deeper understanding to the origin of this language

DESCRIPTION:Although the Noun Phrase Accessibility Hierarchy (NPAH) is kn
own as the most plausible hypothesis in the relativization hierarchy\, t
he accuracy of this hypothesis and other hypotheses concerning the acqui
sition of relative clauses (RCs) in first and second language acquisitio
n is still under investigation due to the inconsistent results of the le
vel of difficulty of RCs. Language researchers have been trying to test
the hypotheses on the relativization hierarchy for different languages a
nd different genres. The present study intends to investigate the predic
tions of two hypotheses of RC acquisition\, namely the NPAH and the Perc
eptual Difficulty Hypothesis (PDH) in second language acquisition to see
whether they can predict the acquisition hierarchy of RCs for Kurdish-s
peaking learners of English. Toward this aim\, 45 Kurd native speakers p
articipated in sentence translation and sentence combination tests. The
results obtained from the two tests confirmed the predictions made by th
e NPAH. The results also revealed that the participants find RCs modifyi
ng objects of the matrix clauses much easier than those modifying subjec
ts\; this means\, the study supports the claim of the PDH\, which propos
es that right-embedding RCs are easier to acquire than center-embedding
ones due to short-term memory limitations.\n

DESCRIPTION:Im Sprachgebrauch beobachten wir\, dass Emotionen den Gegenst
and einer Diskussion darstellen können: Ihre Existenz selbst kann in Fra
ge gestellt werden\, sie können als nicht gerechtfertigt bzw. unangebrac
ht angesehen werden oder eigene sowie die Emotionen Dritter können begrü
ndet werden. Plantin spricht hier von „argumentabilité des émotions“ (Pl
 antin 1997: 81 zit. nach Micheli 2010: 18). Emotionen tauchen außerdem i
m Rahmen weiterer Argumentationen auf. Sie sind dann nicht der eigentlic
he Gegenstand der Argumentation\, werden aber ebenfalls argumentativ ges
tützt.\nIm Rahmen meines Dissertationsprojekts\, einer sprachvergleichen
den Analyse von Emotionen als Argumentationsgegenstand\, werden mithilfe
korpuslinguistischer Methoden argumentative Sequenzen in multilingualen
Korpora ermittelt und klassifiziert.\nZiel des Projekts ist es\, über d
ie Analyse des argumentativen Kontextes eines Emotionslexems in authenti
schem Textmaterial die kognitive Repräsentation einer Emotion und ihre B
ewertung hinsichtlich subjektiver und normativer Gegebenheiten besser zu
verstehen. Analysiert wird beispielsweise wie Emotionen bestritten\, be
gründet\, gerechtfertigt und argumentativ gestützt werden. Dadurch kann
auf semantische Inhalte des Emotionslexems geschlossen werden.\nIm Vortr
ag steht die korpuslinguistische Methodik zur Ermittlung der argumentati
ven Sequenzen in Verbindung mit den Emotionen ANGST\, WUT und FREUDE und
für den daraus folgenden Aufbau eines mehrsprachigen Argumentationskorp
us im Mittelpunkt. Erste Ergebnisse für das Deutsche und Französische an
hand des EuroParl-Korpus werden diskutiert und mit Beispielen erläutert.

DESCRIPTION:“Don’t feed the troll!” is a phrase commonly encountered in o
nline forums. In recent years\, however\, trolling has come to the atten
tion of the public at large and the media\, with newspapers often declar
ing that someone is being targeted by trolls. Unfortunately\, the news a
rticle usually does not define what exactly is meant by a troll. This is
a rather common problem on which linguists and other researchers have w
orked on since the early 2000s (cf. Herring et al. 2002).\nIn research\,
the definition of what trolling is has a long history and is entwined w
ith the invention of the internet. While in the past\, the definition wa
s examined from the perspective of impoliteness and often seen as being
connected to flaming (cf. Hopkinson 2012)\, in recent years it has becom
e a rather fuzzy term. This is partly due to the inherent understanding
of what constitutes a troll.\nStarting from the origin of the term ‘trol
l’ and its first appearance in internet culture\, I will first give an o
verview over the development of the definition\, how it is used today on
line and offline. Furthermore\, the fuzziness of the term and what this
does to the general and specific discourse will be of interest. For this
purpose\, I will present the most common definitions of trolling\, main
ly from linguistic research and present a small study of how the term is
used in English speaking news media in spring 2019.

DESCRIPTION:The role of iconicity in language has recently seen an upsurg
e in interest. One of the unresolved issues in this debate is the integr
ation of iconic processes into theories of linguistic structure. At what
level do iconic processes act and to what kinds of linguistic processin
g are they relevant?\n\nThe present study aims to contribute to this deb
ate testing whether signs are morphologically complex units that combine
iconic form-meaning units in a behavioural design. Four potential units
were selected for an experimental task\, in which 25 native users of Si
gn Language of the Netherlands (NGT) matched Dutch words with signs from
NGT and phonologically valid pseudosigns in a binary forced-choice para
digm. \n\nThe results support the view\, that signs are not simply mono-
morphemic\, but that signers are sensitive to sub-lexical form-meaning u
nits. At the same time\, it showed that not all form-meaning unit are eq
ually important in iconically grounding a sign’s lexical meaning. Partic
ipants also performed better on NGT signs\, implying a role for lexical
processing that exceeds the mere meaning potential contributed by the FM
Us\, which is available to signers in the interpretation of novel signs.

DESCRIPTION:Recently\, changes in the assignment of grammatical gender to
color nouns have been observed in the younger population (approximate a
ge: < 22 years) of eastern Austria. A pilot study was conducted to monit
or and capture the changes and their distribution. It was found that a s
plit in semantic concepts of color nouns into perceptually used color no
uns and instrumentally used color nouns seems to be the offspring for th
e emerging assignment of female gender to color nouns.

DESCRIPTION:Speaking English has become a huge part of our everyday lives
. But not everyone speaks the same English – and that is okay. It is est
imated that by 2020\, roughly 2 billion people will be speaking English
at a useful level and be able to hold conversations. With the majority o
f English-speaking people around the globe being non-native English spea
kers (meaning that they have learned to speak English at some point for
one reason or another)\, there are bound to be different opinions about
the situation as well as advantages and disadvantages of speaking Englis
 h. Exploring people’s attitudes towards different accents of native and
non-native speakers of English is therefore not only interesting\, but a
lso necessary. \nIn this study\, learners of English (university student
 s) were first asked to evaluate their use of English and describe their
own English. Afterwards\, they were asked to evaluate native and non-nat
ive speakers of English based on recorded sound samples. Based in the di
screpancies in evaluations of native and non-native speakers that were t
he results of previous studies\, I wanted to find out if today’s student
s have the same ideas about “good” and “bad” English and if “standard En
glish” still holds the monopole of being the only “right” and “good” Eng
 lish there is. \n

DESCRIPTION:Für empirische linguistische Untersuchungen sind Daten unerlä
sslich. Doch wo nimmt man diese her?
