DESCRIPTION:This workshop introduces the theoretical framework of Distrib
uted Morphology (Halle & Marantz 1993\; Embick 2015\; Alexiadou et al.\,
to appear) and provides participants with the opportunity to practice a
pplying its analytical tools to concrete data from typologically diverse
languages.\n\nDistributed Morphology assumes word formation to be synta
ctic. It is a realizational framework\, meaning that the syntax first pu
ts the abstract morphemes together and only later - in a process called
Vocabulary Insertion - phonological features are added. We will introduc
e key concepts such as Vocabulary Insertion and the Subset Principle wit
h English and German examples. This will be followed by hands-on exercis
es on typologically diverse languages. \n\nYou do not need any previous
knowledge about morphological theory to attend!
