A special taste of bilingualism: Mizrahi pop music of Arabic Jews
Mizrahi pop Music shows fascinating bilingual skills of Arab Jews originating from the Middle East, Arabic and Hebew being closely related languages, nowadays interconnected in so-called world music. To get an idea, we will listen to sound samples.
The contact language feature phono semantic equation (PSE), which can be detected here, will be demonstrated with linguistic comment.
This talk draws a sound picture of these skills and the historical roots.
