From the electric milk frother to the industrial bottling plant – each technical product must be accompanied by a technical document. Despite their significance and diversity, however, technical documents are underrepresented in linguistic research. This poster presentation summarises my M.A. thesis, in which I advocate for more linguistic consideration of this sub-genre. I review the types of technical documentation, design and compile a representative corpus, revisit existing claims about characteristics of the sub-genre and attempt to unearth new characteristics.
