Hello! It's Merve from the University of Konstanz. I am doing my Master's degree in Multilingualism (M.A.) in the Department of Linguistics. I am currently working on my thesis. I am 29 years old and came from Turkey two years ago to study in Konstanz.

I would describe myself as a warm, friendly, and kind person. Building sincere relationships matters a lot to me, and I value trust in both my personal and professional life. In my free time, I enjoy painting and learning about different therapy techniques. I also like spending time with people, especially cooking and trying food from different cultures together. Being in an environment where people from diverse backgrounds come together gives me a lot of joy and inspiration. I am also interested in psychology and sociology, and I enjoy following modern science and current topics. I love animals, especially cats. Right now, I am learning German as my third language, and in the future, I would like to learn different dialects of Turkish as well as Finnish.
My main academic interests are psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, and neurolinguistics. I completed my bachelor’s degree in Speech and Language Therapy, and I worked as a therapist in Turkey for five years. This experience gave me more than professional knowledge; it also helped me grow personally by teaching me patience, empathy, and how to look at problems from different perspectives.
In my current thesis, I am researching how voiced consonants in Turkish become devoiced in word-final position. In addition, I worked with Prof. Nicole Dehé on Icelandic data, where I practiced doing annotation and working with real data. By attending regular meetings with her, I had the chance to see academic life more closely and to understand how research is carried out step by step. These experiences not only strengthened my interest in academia but also confirmed that I want to continue in this field.
