<span class="translation_missing" title="translation missing: de.options.poster">poster</span>: Word separation in the Old Turkic runiform script
During the early middle ages, the Turkic peoples of Central Asia used their own runiform script to write down their histories and dedicate gravestones. This tradition spans at least two centuries and spreads over a large geographic area. The script itself is mostly alphabetic, but also shows characteristics of other types of scripts. Old Turkic draws from a diverse set of contact scripts and combines different features in a unique way. One particular aspect is the usage of punctuation to divide phonological, morphological and syntactic units. Trends and variations in word separation give us clues on how the writers of the runiform texts perceived the phonology and morphology of their own language.
