Speaker: Annika Schiefner
I am a researcher in sign language linguistics at the University of Amsterdam, studying which factors aid children in learning a sign language in a virtual learning environment. At the same time, I am also writing up my PhD dissertation in the DFG-AHRC project "From Icon to Abstraction" at the University of Cologne in cooperation with the University of Birmingham. Here, I am studying how iconicity is used in silent gesture and sign by comparing gesture and sign data from Germany and the UK. I hold an M.A. in Language and Communication: Psycholinguistics from Radboud Univesity, Nijmegen, NL, and a B.A. in Language and Communication from the Philipps-Universität Marburg. I am also a board member of the Junge Sprachwissenschaft e.V.
My interests are in sign languages, psycholinguistic research methods and tools, statistics, and open science. My pronouns are she/her.
