Virtual Reality for Language Rehabilitation

This workshop aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of how cutting-edge VR technologies can be integrated into linguistic research and clinical practice, particularly in the domain of language disorders. Language rehabilitation following stroke-induced aphasia represents a critical yet challenging aspect of post-stroke care, as stroke remains a leading cause of disability-adjusted life years worldwide. Traditional speech therapy methods often rely on mechanical exercises, limiting the efficacy and engagement of treatment. This workshop addresses research suggesting the use of Virtual Reality technology to enhance language rehabilitation for individuals.

Embedded within the interdisciplinary realms of psycho- and neurolinguistics, this workshop offers a unique opportunity for participants to delve into the immersive world of VR.

Participants will not only gain theoretical knowledge but also practical experience as they immerse themselves in a virtual environment. Through hands-on interaction, attendees will explore the potential of VR and investigate its applications in speech therapy.

While planned as a workshop, the content could also be presented as a lecture. Delivery can be in English or German. The content showcases the transformative potential of VR in advancing the field of linguistics and revolutionizing therapeutic interventions for language disorders.

As part of my dual master's program, I am deeply engaged in Virtual Reality therapy within my media studies master's degree. Drawing from my experiences, including conducting VR therapy workshops at conferences and offering VR training sessions in medical education for physicians throughout my professional career, I am well-versed in this medium. Now, I aim to leverage this expertise to explore the intersection of Virtual Reality and speech therapy within my linguistics master's program.
