Speaker: Alicia Huertas

I'm a UK based PhD researcher (UWE) working in sociolinguistics/pragmatics, looking at the relation between language use and ideology. To what extent do we mean what we say?! I use Corpus Linguistic tools and Critical Discourse Analysis to examine what people say online and to what extent it corresponds with the attitudes they hold. I have a background in philosophy, so I find myself drawn to the overlap between linguistics and philosophy of language, such as theories of meaning. Mainly, i'm just fascinated by language, and more fundamentally by people and their interaction.
