Lecture: English Converbs?
The Case of the Adverbial Participle
The adverbial use of the English participles exhibits many similarities with the class of verb forms known in other languages, such as the Turkic languages, as converbs. By contrasting the properties of the adverbial participle with the typological properties of converbs, the similarities and at least partially converbial nature of the English adverbial participle can be shown.
